MAY 14, 1993 GAY PEOPLE'S CHRONICLE

STONEWA
CLEVELAND
by Keith Sutton
A lesbian gay political organization of Northeastern Ohio
I want to be sure to tell you several things: remind you to make your Stonewall Dinner reservations as soon as possible, announce our second Gay Town Meeting on June 21, and encourage you to attend Stonewall 25 in New York in 1994, but before I do...
I hope you got to Washington. It was fabulous! There were so many people. So many queers. It was a sight to see. Do you know what it feels like to be gay and in the majority? It was the most affirming feeling ... a feeling of total freedom.
If you weren't able to go, I hope you watched some of it on C-SPAN. Either way, I hope you're still fired up. Have you come out to anybody since you've been home? Have you sent a letter or made a call to Glenn, Metzenbaum, Hoke or President Clinton? I hope you have. You can be sure the fundamentalists have pitched a fit about our march. And Clinton is catching a lot of bad press for supporting an end to the ban. Do as much as you can, and do it often.
Time is fast approaching for our Annual Stonewall Cleveland Pride Dinner to be held Sunday, June 13 at 6:30 pm at Stouffer's Tower City Plaza Hotel. Your reservations must be in by June 4th, but I encourage you to get them in sooner. Our keynote speaker will be Tim McFeeley, executive director of the Human Rights Campaign Fund from Washington, D.C. He's one of our gay power brokers and a smooth lobbyist. You don't want to miss the opportunity to meet him. Reservations can be made by sending

$50 per person to Stonewall, 3210 Bradwell Ave., Cleveland, OH 44109. Questions can be answered by calling 741-9105. Visa and Mastercard are accepted. Don't miss this annual event. . . it's a kickoff to Pride Week!
If you missed our first Gay Town Hall Meeting you now have a chance to catch up. We're having our Second Gay Town Hall Meeting, again at Cleveland State University, on Monday, June 21, 6:30 pm, the exact room location to be determined. Watch the Chronicle next month for complete up-to-date information. You'll again
have a chance to see the fundamentalist's propaganda video The Gay Agenda. And new this time, we'll also show our community video which has been produced by the Gay and Lesbian Emergency Media Campaign, entitled Hate, Lies and Videotape, in response to the right wing's propaganda. In addition, we hope to have a representative from the Campaign for Military Service to explain what we can do in preparation for President Clinton's executive order on July 15. So reserve June 21 on your calendar.
And, if you didn't get to Washington this time, plan on a trip to New York City in June of 1994 to celebrate Stonewall 25. Not only will it be during Pride week, it will also be during the Gay Games. So plan your vacation now. We'll keep you posted on the details. Don't miss this enormous celebration.

Chevrei Tikva
Cleveland's Synagogue with an outreach to the Lesbian and Gay community P.O. Box 18120 Cleveland, Ohio 44118 (216) 932-5551
•
Member of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations and the World Congress of Gay and Lesbian Jewish Organizations.
In our continuing series of guests, Chevrei Tikva will present, on Friday, May 21 not one, but two guests. One will be Rabbi Daniel Roberts, spiritual leader of Temple Emanu El. The other is really a guest who is a non-guest. She is one of the founding CT members, Brynna Fish.
Brynna is the music co-ordinator of Temple Emanu El and has been teaching Jewish music for 20 years. In addition, she is also Development and Public Relations Director for the Center for the Prevention of Domestic Violence, and is working on a Jewish curriculum for the Jewish Family Services group homes for the Developmentally Disabled (of which there are five homes in Cleveland). She is raising her nephew, Shiah, who is 8, and lives in Cleveland Heights with her dog, Frances and cat, Tigger.
Rabbi Roberts is not a stranger to the Cleveland Jewish community. He came to Temple Emanu El in 1972 and was appointed Senior Rabbi in 1977. He has been a Navy chaplain, actively involved in the National Suicide Task Force for the Union of American Hebrew Congregations (Reform) and has been instrumental in organizing inter-synagogue adult education programs. One of his several outreach programs is a Black-Jewish dialogue with Antioch Baptist Church.
With these two people at the helm, Friday, May 21 will be a rewarding evening. The entire Cleveland community is invited to attend at the Unitarian Society on Lancashire Blvd. in Cleveland Heights at 8:30 pm.
There is still time to purchase tickets for the Cleveland Orchestra concert of Saturday evening, May 22. The guest conductor will be Sian Edwards, the only woman conductor to direct our wonderful symphony this season; and one of the few
women world-wide who has achieved major conducting status. The pianist for the evening will be Stephen Hough and the main attraction on the program will be the you-can-go-home-hummin'-the-tune Pictures at an Exhibition. For the group ticket price, call the C-T Line, 932-5551.
After an absence of a few years, Chevrei Tikva is re-inaugurating our Pride Week Interfaith service. Guests from all of the other area gay and lesbian religious groups are invited to attend and some members have been asked to participate in the service: "Our pride in ourselves and in our God." This event will take place at the Shabbat service of Friday, June 18.
In most of my columns I mention holidays and the food we eat. As a point of information, the Sabbath (now called "Shabbat") is the most important holiday according to God's commandments. All other holidays, except Yom Kippur, are not as important. Therefore, if we eat on all of the other holidays, we also eat on the Sabbath (we just don't cook!). After each of the Shabbat Services mentioned above, there is an Oneg, which not literally translated means, "Goodies are to be found along with socializing." At least come and join us for the Oneg!
The ceramic, gilt edge AIDS Awareness Ribbon Pin is selling well. Chevrei Tikva is three-quarters into our second order. Proceeds for this $5 pin will go to the AIDS Housing Council and the Free Clinic. If you do not have yours yet, they can be purchased at the AHC offices at West 79th and Detroit, the Free Clinic at East 122nd and Euclid, Body Language at West 115th and Lorain, and Gifts of Athena on Lee near Cedar. Or call the C-T Line, 932-5551 for this or any other information about Chevrei Tikva.
